Arbor Hill is one of the first neighborhoods of Albany, NewYork. It has a unique history, from the Tenbroeck Mansion and the Albany vigilance committee run by the Myers, to the redlining and the birth of the environmental justice movement. Through interviews with residents and supporters of the Growing Underground Railroad Education Center, these stories tell of community, art, and activism that this neighborhood has always had in its history. Arbor Hill Stories
Arbor Hill is one of Albany’s oldest neighborhoods in one of America’s oldest cities. Over its many years, it was home to wealthy lumber barons, Albany’s vigilance committee, a home to the environmental justice movement, a redlined neighborhood, and the home to many. Through this project, we intend to pass the mic to residents who have spent time, held leadership positions, and chosen to spend their time and efforts in Arbor Hill. The Underground Railroad Education Center runs this project because our mission is to connect our local Underground Railroad history to introduce our audiences to this history's legacy to the present and our neighbors. As this project continues, we are looking for folks to interview, so if you have interviewee recommendations, please contact us.
